About the Temple
Introduction
Sri Daneswari Ammavari Temple stands on the southern side of the village of Duvva, in Tanuku mandal, Andhra Pradesh, about 8 km from Tanuku. Amid the green paddy fields and coconut groves of the Godavari delta, it is the shrine of Sri Daneswari Devi – one more form in the long line of manifestations of the Divine Mother, Jaganmata – and it draws devotees from the surrounding region who regard the Goddess as especially gracious and full of miracles.
Legend
According to local belief, Sri Daneswari Ammavaru has been present here in an unseen form since the Treta Yuga, the age of Lord Rama, watching over the land long before any temple was built. Devotees believe that she answers sincere prayers, and the temple is known locally for the many experiences of her grace that devotees recount.
Duvva – Durvasapuram
Tradition holds that the village was established by the great sage Durvasa, who performed intense penance here, and that it was once called Durvasapuram – a name that in time became Duvva. Duvva also has an old temple of Lord Kesava, which some accounts count among the Pancha Kesava Kshetras of the region, together with Mandapaka, Tanuku and Ryali.
