About the Temple
Introduction
Sri Ganganamma Thalli Temple at Ramannagudem, near Aswaraopeta in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Telangana, close to the Andhra Pradesh border, is a village shrine of Ganganamma Thalli – one of the beloved village goddesses (grama devatas) of the Telugu lands. It is a place of daily worship for the people of Ramannagudem and the surrounding villages, who come to the Mother with their prayers and vows.
The Goddess – Ganganamma Thalli
Ganganamma (also called Gangamma) is worshipped across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as a protective Mother of the village. She is traditionally linked with water and with the well-being of the whole community – devotees pray to her for timely rains and good harvests, for protection from illness and epidemics, and for the safety and prosperity of their families. She is seen as a loving but powerful Mother who guards the village boundary and watches over everyone within it.
Worship and Offerings
Devotees offer turmeric, kumkum, green bangles, sarees and coconuts to the Mother, and many families make offerings according to their own customs in fulfilment of vows. Village goddess festivals often include the offering of bonams and lively processions with drums.
