The Brihadeeswara Temple (Peruvudaiyar Kovil) in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of India's greatest architectural achievements. Built by Raja Raja Chola I and consecrated in 1010 CE, its 216-foot vimana soars over the Cauvery plains. Constructed from 1,30,000 tonnes of interlocking granite without mortar, the complex houses a massive Shivalingam, 11th-century Chola frescoes, a monolithic Nandi, and 250 Shiva Lingas along its outer corridor. A living temple of extraordinary historical and spiritual significance.
